Postcards from Tasmania 6

Friday 16/09/16 Day 6
Not much happening today. We packed up camp in a leisurely fashion and pulled out at 10.45am heading for Bicheno. I had a hankering for fush and chips for lunch.   After a look around, we went to the Sea Life Centre, which us a bit run down but we had good fish there 4 years ago. The same old ducks still run ut and it wasn't long and we had fresh battered flathead and chips in front of us!
It was very good but a huge serving.
Then we called in at Freycinet Vineyard for a tasting and we sent 6 bottles home...
Onwards to Freycinet Lodge, our home for the night. We desperately need showers and to wash clothes and towels.  A lot of our stuff got wet after that down pour.
Possibly the weirdest dessert I've ever tasted! Sweet potato and pineapple tart with pineapple sorbet, licorice meringue and toasted grains.

Thursday 15/09/16 Day 5
This is our camp at Sloop Reef, Bay of Fires on the east coast..,
After a soggy start last night, we had a good night in Pearl. No leaks!
Pearl is covered in mud from the unsealed roads...

Postcards from Tasmania 4

Wednesday 14/09/16 Day 4
This is the inlet at George Town, very picturesque...
Then we headed for Bay of Fires winery to do some tasting...
Then we headed for Bridport then onto the Lost Farm Barnbougle Golf Resort where our mate said we should have lunch....
Chicken parmy for me ( a bit over done) and salt n pepper calamari for Gus...
The rain had set in for the afternoon so we continued on over to the east coast via Gladstone and Ansons Bay...
Down one wet road after another...
We pulled into different camps but they were either too exposed or already taken...
We tried Policemans Point, Cosy Corner North and South, Swimcart Beach until we cam across Sloop Reef camp, on dark and drizzling rain.
It got worse and worse but Gus persisted in setting up. We are safe and dry and had 40mls of rain dumped on us!  The waves crashing in sound like thunder!

Postcards from Tasmania 3

Tues 13/09/16 Day 3 - Not a lot to report today. We packed up camp and had a $2 4 minute shower in the park before heading to Launceston.  No power or mirrors in the facility so I got my trusty little blow dryer out and got my hair sitting right. Trowelled on my makeup and I was good to go!
Noice!
We had lunch with a fellow Land Rover dealer at Stillwater which was lovely. His place is huge compared to ours!
After lunch we made our way to George Town where we again foraged for food then made our way to Low Head Tourist Park where we had booked an ensuite powered site. The ensuite is spotless and the laundry is directly across from our site so I've already got some loads on the go.
It's been overcast all day today so hopefully it'll be a bit brighter tomorrow as we head over to the east coast for another camp spot. Not sure yet where we'll end up...
After that lunch, we have toasted sandwiches (done in the fry pan) planned for dinner.  That and an early night, will do! This camping business is a bit tiring...
Cheers - Joolz xx
