Hutchessons Camp... Day 2

Sunday 27 May, 2018
We had a great, cozy sleep in Pearl and woke to another overcast day, but it wasn't cold...

We lit the pig again...

Camp breakfast of eggs and bacon...
~

...and toast with marmalade and jam to finish off...
~

Gus got Bob the boat pumped up and ready for a choof down the river...
~

This is the best way to see the river and
the beautiful cliffs and bird life...

We got back from our little tootle along the river to find that we had visitors at our camp.  We found it rather rude that they would just pull up right near our camper and proceed to set up their barbecue lunch and light a fire in the camp fireplace...too bad if we had the same idea.  Remember, we paid $25 a night to stay here...
We didn't say much because we sort of knew the people but....rude!
~
Anyway, after letting them use our axe to chop their big bits of wood, let them have some kindling and firelighters, they finally had their fire sorted.

Gus cooked our shaslicks on the BabyQ and I cooked a packet rice on the camper stove and made a nice salad.
~

It was lovely sitting out eating our lunch...

...until the peace was broken by the sound of our toughened glass sink cover exploding into a million pieces!
~

I'm glad we were outside otherwise I'd probably never go back in there again!  The biggest mystery is why it did it.  The stove has the same cover which was upright and I'd finished cooking about 10 minutes before (and was letting the rice just steam to finish).  The sink hadn't had anything hot near it and it was also upright...total mystery!
~
It took a while to clean up all the shards of glass but luckily there were no scratches in our bench top.  Now we need to sort out a replacement cover...
~

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the fire and packing up Bob.  Things are rather muddy!

Dinner Sunday night was a simple steak and a braise of onion, mushroom, tomato, garlic and olive to top the steak and a baked spud.
~
It rained overnight so we had to pack Pearl up a bit damp...

We will have to return again one day, this is a lovely spot for a camp and hopefully next time we'll catch some fish!

A quick breakfast before packing up - banana and peanut butter on sourdough...
~

Home we go, down another bush track...
Cheers - Joolz xx

  1. Julie I love reading about your camping adventures, and marvel at how you still manage to make everything look so elegant and civilized, even your fingernails. ;-)
I'm afraid our camping dinners, although nutritious, look nowhere near as polished as yours. I love your 'pig', what a perfect camping fire/cooker. I wonder if anyone else has had issues with the toughened glass? What a mystery! We have the same glass cover on our gas cook top in the Avan. Regarding rude intruders of your space, we had some terrible experiences during our trip away, and I now seem to be on edge for the entire evening after setting up, in fear of having our peace and solitude broken by inconsiderate fellow campers. What's it about? Why do they feel they need to park right on top of us when there are numerous campsites of equal beauty to be camped on? One evening, after setting up in a beautiful quiet spot, a camper bus pulled up right behind us and the two men were preparing to camp there while dozens of other secluded spots were there for the taking. I'd had a glass of red so, full of Dutch courage, I went to greet them, told them about a fabulous campsite just over there, right near the water! Lo and behold, with many thanks for my suggestion, they took off and we didn't see them again. Lol!!! But the next night, different place, just as we were going off to sleep in the most peaceful quietness, a caravan pulled up just behind us!!! Grrrr.. From now on I'm going to take the bull by the horns and tell whoever invades our space that we have parked away from everyone for a reason...because our dog tends to get noisy at night and we are considerate of other campers. ;-) And as for fellow campers who must have their music blaring loudly, don't start me on that one. Such a beautiful spot you went to, but you have so many to choose from close to where you live.

    1. Oh, Sally! That would have been so annoying. Lucky these ones were just day tripper but we just couldn't believe the cheek of it! We love our solitude. Maybe next time when someone pulls up you should blare some heavy metal music, that might deter them, lol!!
